Raccoons are carnivorous mammals that belong to the raccoon family, where scientists stress the following types: common (Procyon loto), crab-eating (Procyon cancrivorus), Cozumel (Procyon pygmaeus) and Guadeloupe (Procyon minor) ones. The most popular type is common or North-American one.
Its weight and size is like a small barrel: the body reaches to 65 cm in length, they grow to weigh about 10 kg. Usually females are smaller than males in size. Paw print this animal is very similar to the imprint of a human hand.
This animal is omnivorous, it willingly eats berries, worms, insects, frogs and small rodents. Many raccoons live near human dwellings looking for scraps in landfills and dumps because of their extravagance. Impudent mammals make their way into the yards and homes not infrequently.
In recent years it has become popular to get the animal as a pet. The life expectancy of this mammal in it natural environment is up to 10 years, however, domesticated ones lives much more longer – up to 15 years. By the nature, raccoons are extremely peaceful and friendly, active, inquisitive, resourceful and demonstrate a high level of intelligence. They are able to learn, be domesticated and remember the solution to a particular problem.
