Hi everyone,

My name is Chuck. I’m from Belfast in the United Kingdom. I am a native English speaker and enjoy teaching this language. I have been teaching English for just over 5 years.

My teaching career started in a very interesting and unusual way. This happened when I was back in Russia. I had some friends who wanted me to help their kids with their English homework. At first I was reluctant to do this but my friends managed to talk me into it. I was amazed at how much fun I had doing that so I decided to find more students. Later I decided to do a course in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) which I passed with flying colours.

At university I studied microbiology and worked for a pharmaceutical company for a while. I’ve also done some programming courses and worked for a multinational bank as a programmer analyst. So in a sense you could say I’m a jack of all trades. The job I’ve enjoyed and still enjoy the most though is teaching English. I just love the language and teaching it to others.

In my time as a teacher I’ve met and taught some amazing people. I was even able to meet the President of Tatarstan in Russia and have a chat with him. I can tell you all about it if you take a lesson with me. The highest ranking official I’ve taught English to thus far was the minister of construction in Tatarstan. Another very interesting story you might want to hear about!

I like my lessons to be student focused. Many English students are shy to speak even though they can speak very well. So I try to plan my lessons in such a way as to make the student speak more: the goal is to have the student speaking for about 70 – 75% of the lesson time.

The advantage of taking lessons with a native speaker – with me in particular – is that I can adapt to your individual needs. That means that I can create a curriculum based on whatever you need English for. This makes the lessons fun, exciting and valuable to you!

My main interest is preparing students for international exams such as IELTS and TOEFL. I particularly enjoy this aspect of teaching English because it challenges not only the student but even me as a teacher. I’ve taken a number of students through these courses and the results have been nothing less than impressive.
