Hello to all.

I teach the following English lessons remotely via Skype using the UK School’s Curriculum from key stage 2 (ages 7-11) and key stages 3 — 4 (ages 11-16.)

Ideally to begin with, you will have Elementary English Skills, from which we will advance from, by building vocabulary, grammar, speaking & listening skills and most importantly Comprehension Skills. Comprehension skills simple means ‘Understanding’ what you have read/heard, understanding the meaning of all the words in a piece of text, reading between the lines, idioms, phrases and the contextual meaning. I have noticed Russian students can read all the English words but have limited understanding of what they have read/heard. This is where I can help, 15 years of teaching comprehension skills key stage 2  means I can pass on the skills to you, easily and effectively. All my lessons have been used effectively to teach native English students.

Key Stage 2

All lessons are based on the UK National Curriculum Standards for Schools.

I recommend engaging with the Comprehension books 1&2 to begin with and moving on to book 3-4 and/or other courses of study detailed below for further English development. I will test you during the free lesson period to access your ideal starting point.

Comprehension

Key stage 2 comprehension: provides a unique collection of stimulating texts that

appeal strongly to both males and females, together with questions that build and stretch comprehension skills and widen vocabulary.

Providing more than 72 levelled texts in total, each with 10-12 questions to bring out the understanding of the text, the series encourages readers to pay close attention to literal meaning and to make inferences and deductions. Students are also given intensive usage in observing how different kinds of writing are structured and in identifying literary devices and their effects. They also provide topic discussion for English conversational skills, expanding speaking and listening skills within each lesson.

Book 1

Is for students whose understanding of simple texts and conversation is generally accurate.

Book 2

Is for fluent, accurate readers with good conversational skills.

Book 3

Is for students ready to explore more complex meanings.

Book 4

Is for students with broadening interests and vocabulary.

Springboard ‘General English Skills’ Books.

Springboard 1-8

Springboard is a series of graded activity books designed to support the key skills and understanding required by the National Curriculum at Key Stage 2. The books contain activities that reinforce student’s skills in sentence construction, comprehension, spelling, vocabulary and conversational skills.

Spelling

Spelling: is a structured programme designed for students who have completed Comprehension book 1&2 and wish to consolidate English word structure for writing skills.

Comprising six student books, it is suitable for all students who have a basic understanding of letter–sound relationships. This accessible series, ideal for students which give extensive usage in using their phonic knowledge to spell words and encourages them to become effective spellers. Over 40 English phonics are taught helping with spelling and pronunciation.

It does so by:

systematically introducing spelling rules, patterns, guidelines and conventions

exploring word structure and the relationship between words of shared origin

providing strategies for remembering ‘tricky words’

encouraging students to monitor and correct their own spelling including phonetic usage.

Based on the model teach ➔ Practise ➔ apply ➔ assess.

Spelling, may be used in conjunction with any other materials that help students to practise, consolidate and apply spelling skills.

English Skills.

English skills: provides graded questions that develop student’s literacy skills

at Key Stage 2. Key areas are constantly revisited, giving students the intensive and rigorous usage that is essential if they are to become fully literate.

Every English skills book is divided into three sections, each comprising 12 one-page tests presented in a standard format that students will quickly become familiar with.

Every test covers:

spelling

sentence formation

word structure

punctuation

vocabulary

grammar

Books 2 to 5 are designed primarily for Key stage 2; Books 1 and 6 provide bridges

from Key Stage 1 and on into Key Stage 3. All the books may be used by older or younger students, supporting personalised learning.

Creative Writing Skills.

These are lessons tailored to the needs of the proficient reader, speller with good all round English skills, students will be able to write independently using correct Grammar, Punctuation (using existing classical books and poems as extant exemplars) extending their English Creative Skills under close supervision.

English Literature.

Reading and exploring Classic English Literature.

Chose from over 200 classic books sent to you by email for you to keep. Reading together, learning classic English words their definition, usage and meaning. For the pleasure of  knowing Dickens, Hardy, Doyle to name a few.
